Back around the time Miley Cyrus cut her hair and released her fourth studio album Bangerz, she did a lot of things that turned heads, many times for worse than for better. Looking back on it now, I can agree that some things done around this time were a little more than strange, but some of them were absolutely wonderful. And one of those wonderful things includes this live cover of the Arctic Monkeys song “Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High?” from 2013’s AM. The original was (and still is) one of my favorite songs of all time and saying that Cyrus’ cover might be better is a bold statement. But it sure does get pretty close. Her new version of the song includes the same melodies and notes, just a little more toned down. Her vocals are perfect for this song (or any song, for that matter), and once she starts belting out the high notes at the end, I’m always prepared to hit the replay button. Never once is she trying too hard to impress with this one, instead she’s simply letting her talent speak for itself. On top of that, this is also one of my favorite performance outfits of hers, so that’s always a plus.
