Lorde covering Phil Collins’ iconic debut single “In The Air Tonight” is just as amazing as you might expect.
This is one of those songs that is so well recognized because of it’s distinct sound and whenever someone does a cover something like this, you never know how it’s going to sound. But Lorde kept the general outline of the song the same to the point where it’s still identifiable but with her incredible, dark vocals she really makes this one her own. The instrumental is so ethereal and soft and there’s a slight echo on her vocals, similar to the original just with a modern touch. There’s constant buildup, also just like the original, and you can clearly tell that she’s very into the song, bringing it to life way past just the musical portion. This performance gave me chills the entire way though and everything about it is simply perfect.
