Marina and The Diamonds – Electra Heart – Lyrical Highlights

Electra Heart is truly an electrifying piece of work; with various alter egos and fun synth pop production, Marina takes us into this little world where it feels like anything goes. Each song is dripping with the best pop production, and the lyrics are mainly centered around themes of relationships with sprinkles of adolescence, pessimism and optimism, and self awareness. Listening to this just makes you feel great, not just because it veers on the edge of extreme narcissism but because it’s blunt and honest. Although it’s obviously dramatized, there is still this sense of realness that’s found in every track. That realness that’s conveyed through the lyrics is what makes this album so remarkable. The catchy hooks will stick around in your mind for the short term but there are plenty of lyrical moments that will stick around for even longer. There’s an incredible sense of storytelling in each song where we can imagine exactly what this little world of our main character Electra Heart is supposed to look like, and it’s all supported by the words that are contained in them .

This album is something special in terms of lyrics and I had a hard time choosing only a few lines to talk about. So, I decided to pick a lyrical moment from every song, including the deluxe edition tracks.
