Every since I was young, I have always associated R&B music with the color purple. There was no rhyme or reason to it; to put it simply, the genre just sounds like the color purple to me. But that’s not the only reason this cover sticks out to me so much. This photograph is set at a specific time of day, right when the sun is setting and the music perfectly encapsulates that moment. The location seems to be a drained pool that’s been abandoned due to the graffiti, and based on the backdrop, it seems to be in a deserted part of town. This is one of those album covers that just matches the music so perfectly that without even listening to it, you already have a sense of what it’s going to sound like.
