John Mayer – “Free Fallin'” – Tom Petty Cover

There are plenty of songs out there that are good enough already and that really don’t need to be covered. Tom Petty’s 1989 single “Free Fallin'” is one of them. With that being said, however, I must admit that there are moments where I enjoy John Mayer’s cover of the song sometimes more than the original. This cover is from his 2008 live album and concert titled Where The Light Is, and it includes this one along with various other hits and fan favorites such as “Daughters”, “Slow Dancing In A Burning Room” and “Vultures”. Throughout all of his fantastic songs on this setlist, I do find it extremely fitting that he chose this song in particular to do a cover of. If I hadn’t known better, I probably would have thought this was one of his originals. John Mayer’s acoustic take on “Free Fallin'” is one of the best covers out there, and it’s so incredible that I’ve seen more covers of this cover than I have of the original.
