I’m not one to care very much about awards when it comes to music but this sophomore attempt from Destiny’s Child garnered six Grammy nominations, went 8x Platinum in the United States and even spawned two number one hits. But besides the overall recognition it received, this album is legendary in so many ways and stands the test of time of being one of the most incredible pieces of music to ever exist. I found that with this one, even though there were parts that sound a bit outdated now, there are parts that sound rather ahead of times in 1999. The Writing’s On The Wall was perfectly in tune with pop music at the time but was also new enough to be exciting and interesting. It’s centered around relationships and hones in on various topics with well written and catchy lyrics that make it feel like a close friend almost, instead of just a random cluster of tracks thrown together to sell records. The girls’ vocals accompany the lines perfectly whether it be in the form of solos or harmonies, and each song is so fun regardless if it’s an upbeat party song or a slow jam. The delivery of this project is absolutely immaculate, and continues to serve as a blueprint for pop and R&B music to this day.
